MEET SHAWN
Born and raised in Carbon County, Shawn graduated from Carbon High School in 2001 and married his wife Stacy in 2002. Together, they have raised three daughters.
In 2004, Shawn began his law enforcement career by self-sponsoring his way through the Utah Valley State College Peace Officer Academy. At the same time, he worked full-time at Walmart in Price and commuted to Provo for the Peace Officer Academy, making that drive six days a week. That experience reflects the determination and discipline he brings to everything he does, and his belief that service is earned, not given.
In 2005, Shawn was hired by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, where he has proudly served the community for two decades in progressively responsible roles, including:
-
Corrections Deputy
-
Patrol Deputy/K9 Deputy
-
Patrol Sergeant/K9 Sergeant
-
His current position is Sergeant overseeing Treatment Courts, Pre-Trial Service, Court Probation, Court Security, 24/7 alcohol program, and Drone Operations
Shawn has also served in many specialized assignments that demand sound judgment, teamwork, and calm leadership under pressure. In 2007, he was selected as a technician for the Carbon County Hazardous Materials Team, which consisted of over 800 hours of training for this specific certification. In 2008, he was selected for the Carbon County SWAT Team and became a certified sniper. In 2020, he was selected to be a volunteer firefighter for the Price City Fire Department.
Beyond field operations, Shawn has experience in training, standards, and leadership development. He served as the Utah State University Eastern Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Director while simultaneously serving as a full-time Sergeant with the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly after taking that role, he decided to transition his time and energy to patrol work, treatment courts, and direct community impact where he believes law enforcement makes the greatest difference.
Shawn holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice from Utah State University. His education and experience have greatly reinforced his belief that effective law enforcement requires not only enforcement, but understanding, accountability, and collaboration.
